Canoeing
The
lakes and streams in the vicinity of Nechako Lodge offer many
possibilities for canoe trips of various lengths and skill levels.
Our licensed instructors can assist with instructions and advice,
whether you chose a short afternoon paddle in front of the lodge,
an exciting outing on a whitewater river, or a serious wilderness
canoe expedition.
For
the adventurous, a trip on the remote Nechako River offers an
unforgettable wilderness experience, and requires only moderate
skill levels. You'll start in a narrow canyon and then paddle
through the low rolling hills of the wide Nechako Valley. This
river winds its way north, past beautiful pine, spruce and aspen
forests, open range land and a few settlements. To run the full
length of the river from the bottom of Cheslatta Falls to Prince
George will take approximately 6-8 days. Road access is avaialbe
in several locations making shorter journeys possible.
Wilderness
canoe enthusiasts will be attracted to the huge expanse of Eutsuk
Lake in North Tweedsmuir Provincial Park. Exploring the islands
and bays of this glacier fed lake, surrounded by the spectacular
glaciers and peaks of the Coast Mountains, is an unforgettable
experience. Some canoeist chose to follow the chain of lakes that
stretch for over 200 kilometers from Surel Bay at the west end
of Eutsuk Lake to Nechako Lodge near Kenney Dam on Knewstubb Lake.
The
breathtaking scenery and solitude of the Coast Mountains, the
forests and low rolling hills of the Nechako Plateau, and the
wide blue sky and sparkling clean water will make this route the
journey of a lifetime.
