Hiking at Nechako Lodge

Hikers, birders, naturalists, photographers or wildlife enthusiasts will find that many of the popular trails of this region are within easy access of the lodge. Whether the path leads along a river canyon, through high alpine meadows, or climbs up to a viewpoint, every trip can be an adventure for the outdoors enthusiast.

There is a hike for everyone's taste and abilities, from a short stroll along the lakeshore in front of the lodge to a serious multi-day trek in Tweedsmuir Park or on the Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail. A wide network of ancient Carrier People trading routes has been rediscovered, and the beautifully restored trails are attracting more than just historically inclined hikers to enjoy the solitude and beauty of the area.

If you'd like, Nechako Lodge can assist you with a knowledgeable guide and all the supplies you need,. We will ensure your hike will be a safe and memorable experience.

You'll be rewarded with a stunning view of the forested hills and sparkling lakes of the Nechako Plateau on the short but steep climb to Cut-Off Butte. On a clear day you'll see the snow covered peaks in Tweedsmuir Park. Make sure you sign the book, hidden in the rock cairn, on the summit.

The Cheslatta Falls loop trail is another easy half-day outing in the vicinity of the lodge. To see the awesome power of this massive cascade of water is certainly worth your hike. Don't miss the archeological site with ancient house pits just off the trail. The local Carrier People used them as way stations during their journeys along trading routes from North to South.

Longer more demanding hikes such as the Nechako Canyon or the Cheslatta Trail are rich in history, and provide scenic beauty and diversity of flora and fauna.

The remote Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail and the hikes in the breathtaking alpine wilderness of Tweedsmuir Provincial Park are increasingly popular with trekkers from around the world. With our floatplane we can access many trailheads very easily.
